Via Algarviana Self Guided Mountain Bike Tour

Do you enjoy heading off the beaten track? Seeing communities and landscapes almost untouched by modern western society? Then our Via Algarviana self-guided mountain bike holiday might be just the challenge for you. Dive into the depths of the Portuguese countryside, taking a glimpse of the traditional Algarve rural lifestyle that is still very much alive in the interior.

The Via Algarviana traverses the Algarve from East to West over 300km through some of the most picturesque areas in the region. It is a  challenging track, suitable for medium to experienced level cyclists. If in doubt, then we recommend hiring an e-Bike, or giving yourself a little more time to complete it. ´

Each day has significant climbing, as well as technical parts (i.e. loose stones, steep) if you are not an experienced mountain biker you might find yourself walking some small sections. There are also some river crossings, where it might be unavoidable to get wet feet. But that’s all part of the adventure, right!?

Taking on the challenge of the Via Algarviana self-guided mountain bike tour is a truly incredible experience, and a challenge for any level of cyclist. You will see the very best of the ‘real’ Algarve, the landscapes, the animals, the people and the tranquility. The stars at night can be spectacular as parts of the Via Algarviana are far away from light pollution.

Is the Via Algarviana too difficult for me?

Our Via Algarviana self-guided mountain bike tour is recommended for people of at least medium to advanced level. It’s not suited for beginners, unless they are prepared to take the 8 day option, potentially combined with an e-Bike too.

This is because there are some demanding sections of steep and rocky single tracks that require some experience to ride. That being said, all difficult sections can be walked so the Via Algarviana is suitable for any level of rider with an adventurous mindset!

Can I hire a mountain bike?

Of course. Just get in touch to let us know exactly what you would like and we will give you a quotation. For the Via Algarviana we recommend a good quality mountain bike or E-mountain bike.
