BIKE-FRIENDLY CAFES IN THE ALGARVE
No ride is complete without a cafe stop……
Our top three
As cyclists ourselves, there are few things we appreciate more than going to a truly great café – somewhere you can roll up, lean the bike against the wall, and enjoy something local and delicious with a perfectly brewed coffee.
These are our three favourite cafés in the Algarve, places we regularly visit, recommend to our riders, and genuinely love. We hope you enjoy them just as much as we do.
Germano, Alte
🌮Food: 4/5
📍Location: 5/5
☕Coffee: 3/5
🔧Bike Services: 5/5
Back in the 1930s, this café began life as a bicycle repair workshop, run by the current owner’s grandfather, Germano.
We love stopping here for the easy bike parking, the views, and unbeatable atmosphere. It’s not just a café, it’s a bike hub. Pedro, the owner, is an excellent mechanic who’s always happy to help, with tools and servicing available during opening hours.
On the food side, expect generous light lunches, local beers, and a few traditional Portuguese pastries. With cycling always on the TV and regular events organised by the café, it’s a place where riders naturally gather and where the Algarve’s cycling culture feels very much alive.
Velochique, Monchique
🌮Food: 5/5
📍Location: 4/5
☕Coffee: 5/5
🔧Bike Services: Yes
Velochique stands out for it’s incredible food and specialty coffee. From great quality vegan and vegetarian to gluten free, they have something for everyone. They are one of the few providers of true specialty coffee in the Algarve and they have a lovely range of loose-leaf teas.
Alongside is a fully stocked bike shop with a mechanics workshop. They stand out for their SOS service, so if you are stuck – give them a call!
Located at the foot of the climb to Foia, we love this place because of the friendly and english speaking-staff and the cosy atmosphere with a lovely fire burning inside. And for sunny days, there is great outside seating too.
Musette, Luz
🌮Food: 4/5
📍Location: 3/5
☕Coffee: 5/5
🔧Bike Services: Yes
A modern bike café with specialty coffee and great food with a Belgian twist on the menu. You can expect Belgian waffles, delicious pastries and a light lunch with a great selection of their national beers.
They have an on-site bike repair shop and they offer rentals too.
With great outdoor seating and plenty of racks to park your bike – this is the top stop to stop by if you are in the Lagos area.
There is a multi-lingual team behind the counter to help you with any issues or questions you may have.

Are these cafés bike friendly?
Yes! Every café we recommend is genuinely bike-friendly. As cyclists ourselves, we only include places where riders are welcome. These are cafés we personally use on our routes.
Do they offer secure bike parking?
Most of our recommended cafés have outdoor seating where you can keep your bike within sight. In smaller villages like Alte, it’s common and safe for cyclists to stop without concern, but we always suggest keeping your bike visible and locked if stepping inside for long.
Are they open year-round?
Most of the cafés operate year-round, although opening hours may vary significantly. We recommend checking directly if visiting particularly on Sundays or public holidays. Also beware that even when classed as open on google or others, these places may be closed.
Do they accept card payments?
Most do above 5€, but smaller village cafés not always. It’s wise to carry a small amount of euros when riding in rural areas of the Algarve.
